About Me

I’m Helen MacKenzie, a Scottish author on a mission to get my book published.

I have a bit of an unconventional background: I was born in Uganda of English parents, but moved to Scotland when Idi Amin rose to power. I spent my formative years living on the campus of an approved school, where my dad was a teacher.

Since then I’ve been a lawyer, a wife and a mother. I’ve been a sailor, an administrator and a blogger. I’ve run my own business and written three books. My latest project – a teen magical realism thriller called WHICH Trials – is complete and I’m determined to find an agent and get it published.

In addition, I am a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and coordinate one of their crit groups.
